PRESEASON (September, October - November)

The primary purpose of this period is to condition the athlete, both mentally and physically, to his highest level.  Every year, you should set goals that would allow you to surpass the previous years.  You should be more assertive, have a higher endurance level, improve your playing skills, and have more excellent basketball knowledge.

This period will comprise intense workout periods.  The workouts will gradually increase in intensity but remain consistent in length.  The movements should be precise and offer a variety of activities while conditioning the athlete to the proper level.  This program will develop all body energy systems but should concentrate on the anaerobic systems.

Specific Objectives:

1)    Greater endurance - October mile run - November Sprints

2)    Greater strength - Weightroom scheduled (M, W, & Sat.) training

3)    Greater body control - Skill practice

4)    Skill improvement - Skill practice

5)    A greater understanding of basketball knowledge. (IQ & MT of Basketball Classroom sessions) The dividends will be realized later, during the season and postseason tournaments.
