PRESEASON (September - November)
The primary purpose of this period is to condition the athlete, both mentally and physically, to his highest level. Every year, athletes should set goals that will allow them to surpass previous years. The athlete should be more assertive, have a higher endurance level, improve playing skills, and have more excellent basketball knowledge.
This period should comprise intense workouts. The workouts should gradually increase in intensity but remain consistent in length. The movements should be precise and offer a variety of activities while conditioning the athlete to the proper level. This program should develop all the body's energy systems but concentrate on anaerobic ones.
Specific Objectives:
1) Greater endurance
2) Greater strength
3) Greater body control
4) Skill improvement
5) A greater understanding of basketball knowledge. (IQ & MT of Basketball Classroom sessions) The dividends will be realized later, during the season and postseason tournaments.
After conditioning the pre-season period, there will be a tryout.
SEASON (December - February)
This period is for developing team skills, adjusting to playing with teammates, and preparing for opponents. If the preseason games and development have been successful, players will only need minimal time to maintain their overall conditioning levels.
Specific Objectives:
1) Improve basketball skills
2) Adjust to playing with teammates
3) Prepare for opponents
4) Maintain mental toughness and physical conditioning
5) Player and Parent evaluation (scheduled meeting TBA the first week of March)
