About Coach

SOLOMON GORDON BATOON“Post By Lindsey Gamiao”2019 FACF ALUMNI OF THE YEAR INDUCTEE
Our own Class of 66 Alumni, Solomon Batoon, was selected as one of the honorees for this prestigious award to be presented to him at the FACF [Farrington Alumni & Community Foundation] Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Sunday, February 26, 2020, at the FHS Auditorium and Gym.
Coach Batoon has been in education for forty-plus years and is the epitome of an FHS Alumni. Struggling as a youngster growing up in a rough and tough Kalihi environment, he sought to be the best he could be by living and sharing:
The values of personal excellence in both body and mind;* Family cohesiveness as the cornerstone of building your Ohana;* Community involvement as a necessity to achieving your goals; and,* Role modeling is a way to motivate coaches and athletes to promote pride and accountability in the classroom, the playing field, and in their communities.
Sol has always had aspirations to return to Farrington to teach and coach at his Alma Mater. He was very recently hired as an educator at Farrington. His ultimate goal now is to coach an FHS-Governor's Basketball Team to a State Championship someday. You can be sure that he will achieve this, too
Sol truly exemplifies the true dedication and spirit to “GO FORTH TO SERVE.”

Coaching Profile: Solomon Batoon   2014 completed ten years at Saint Francis School, seven at the helm of their Athletic Department.  He was Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach (Men’s). In the first five years, they had won four consecutive Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) varsity conference titles and a State Championship in the third year as a varsity program. They won 20 or more games each year. The Saints had an undefended season in their third year, winning a State Championship (2013). The overall record at Saint Francis School was 45 – 5 in conference play. Coach Batoon had the privilege of being selected and named BIIF – 2X’s, OIA -2X’s, and ILH 3X’s Coach of the Year, and has won the conference/division championship in each of those conferences. In his 40-plus years of coaching, he coached multiple All-State players and a two-time State Player of the Year, in 2012-2013. The team finished the year ranked #7 overall in the Star-Honolulu Advertiser coaches’ poll and ranked #1 in the DII Division State-wide. Saint Francis School has been an all-girls School for 80-plus years; in its first 4 years of boys’ varsity basketball, they were very competitive, so competitive that they were nicknamed "D-I Destroyers" and the only local team to beat the D-I State Champions, along with 6 other D-I State Qualifying teams. In earlier years Coach Batoon was the Head Coach at Damien 1976-80, Seminole State College, FL. 1980-84, Chaminade University, HI. 1984-86 (Assistant Coach & Assistant AD), Kaiser, Saint Joseph, Hilo, South Division Champions, and Campbell High School OIA West Division Champions.

I promise to give GOVERNORS BASKETBALL my ALL-IN commitment. There will be no excuses or reasons for my efforts and actions.  I will trust the process.  I will do everything I can to properly prepare to prevent poor performances at every practice, conditioning, and game.  I will bring a positive effort, enthusiasm, and pride to every game and practice.  I will uphold the standards set forth by our code of Champions, and alumni athletes who have achieved excellence.  And I will be attentive to our players' true intentions.

Our goal at GOVS Basketball is to develop leaders in our student-athletes through

We are looking for Student-Athletes who strive to compete at a high level by challenging themselves.
